Amy Burdette received her Ph.D. from the Department of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin in 2007. Her research investigates connections between religious involvement, neighborhood context, family, and health across the life course. She is particularly interested in how these relationships operate among disadvantaged populations. Dr. Burdette's work has appeared in outlets such as Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Social Science and Medicine, Journal of Family Issues, and Sociology of Religion.

Current projects include examining the relationships between religion and marital relationships among African Americans, exploring the association between housing and mental health among low-income urban women, and investigating the relationship between religious involvement and career paths among young adults.
