Emory Morrison's research has been concentrated in two primary areas. As an affiliate with the Center for Innovation and Research in Graduate Education (CIRGE) Dr. Morrison has researched the lives and careers of doctoral recipients. This work has led to publications dealing with work-family life balance and gender effects on academic careers in such outlets as The Journal of Marriage and the Family and the National Women's Studies Association Journal. His most recent research in this area deals with the academic prestige system and is currently under review in Sociology of Education. He has authored many reports of findings from the CIRGE study Social Science PhDs-Five+ Years Out. These reports can be found at the following URL:

Dr. Morrison also has a research interest in the life course and transitions to adulthood. His work in this area deals with diverse issues from school tracking, to proper measurement of rates of non-marital fertility. His most recent publication, in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion is on the effects of religion on timing of fertility.

Dr. Morrison is currently working with student affairs at Mississippi State University on a campus racial climate study. This study will be designed to collect information to assist the university in developing strategies to continue to break down barriers and to promote an inclusive social and academic environment for all students. Moreover, the study will be designed to address question of sociological interest including patterns of social network formation and to address theories of social influence.
