Dr. Sarah Brauner-Otto
Assistant Professor of Sociology
Ph.D.; Sociology; University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
Sarah Brauner-Otto's interests fall within the sociological areas of demography and family. Her research is focused broadly on the relationship between social context and individual behavior in the United States and in Nepal. Dr. Brauner-Otto's current projects explore new conceptualizations of educational, religious, and health service contexts, attempt to increase our understanding of how the spatial distribution of specific dimensions of context influence micro-macro relationship, and investigate the specific attitudinal and programmatic mechanisms through which these aspects of social context influence family related behaviors such as contraceptive use, marriage, and childbearing.
Brauner-Otto's teaching interests include demography, family, and research methods. Within all three areas she is particularly concerned with presenting multiple theoretical and empirical ideologies. Brauner-Otto's teaching, like her research, maintains a distinct global perspective by examining sociological issues in a variety of settings.
