Shane Hicks Outstanding Criminology Undergraduate Award: Raven Sterling
The Shane Hicks Criminology Award is given each year in honor of Shane Hicks, a Fall 2008 graduate of the Department of Sociology who went on to be admitted to the Master's program here and was studying Criminology when he died suddenly. The award is named after Shane to honor his legacy of hard-work, academic success, and passion for Criminology.
This year's award goes to Raven Sterling. Raven graduated Summa Cum Laude in May, and distinguished herself not only academically, but through service to both the department and community. Raven is a longtime member of the Sociological Student Society (SSA) and it's most recent Vice President of Criminology, and excelled as a mentor for inmates preparing for reentry into their communities. Her reliability, excellent work ethic, and attention to detail are complemented by her conscientiousness and kindness, all of which have elevated the classes and activities in which she has invested. Congratulations, Raven, and best of luck!
