Challenging Racial Inequality

Challenging Racial Inequality

The recent tragedy of George Floyd’s death and the nation-wide protests that have followed show us, as sociologists, that we still have a lot of work to do.  We study power dynamics and inequality in society, both of which played a central role in the death of George Floyd and the uprising that followed.  We stand with the families of those who have lost loved ones to police brutality, the Black community who continues to struggle with how to make sure their children and families are safe in America, and with the future police officers we train in our programs to speak against injustice and to work for the systemic changes we need in our criminal justice system. We hope that through education of students around our nation we are able to continue to grow, learn from our mistakes, and to do what we can to challenge racial inequality in America.
