Jennifer Cheek is a doctoral student in Sociology at Mississippi State University, with a focus on social inequality. She came to Mississippi State from Southeastern Louisiana University, where she earned her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and her Masters of Science in Applied Sociology. While at Southeastern, Jennifer’s research focused on cross-cultural violence against women. Currently, her research focuses on discourses on human trafficking, anti-trafficking efforts, and attitudes about human trafficking. She has presented four papers on trafficking at regional and national conferences, which are in preparation for submission for peer review. She has previously served as Service Committee Chair for the President’s Commission on the Status of Women for Mississippi State University and Secretary for Alpha Kappa Delta. She was also recently awarded the Sociology Outstanding Doctoral Student Award.
