David C. May is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Mississippi State University. He has authored or coauthored six books and over a hundred scholarly articles and book chapters around his research interests of fear of crime, school safety, corrections, military sociology, cybercrime, and policing.  In addition to those works, he is currently coauthoring a second edition of his school safety book (to be published in 2021) and serves as a co-PI on research projects funded by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and the Henry Family Foundation.  He is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Rural Criminology section of the American Society of Criminology, and has served as Secretariat (for a number of years) and President of the Southern Criminal Justice Association (in 2012-2013), Program chair for the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and chair of the corrections section for the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences for several years.  His hobbies include golf, scouting, motorcycle riding, and anything outdoors.
