Welcome to the Social Work Program at Mississippi State University
The Social Work Faculty at Mississippi State University look forward to introducing you to the field of social work. Social Work is a generalist practice degree that prepares graduates to work in a wide variety of settings: hospitals, child protection agencies, nursing homes, schools, rehabilitation clinics, hospice agencies, home health care, substance abuse treatment facilities, psychiatric care facilities, Head Start programs, and many other settings. The educational courses offered in Social Work prepare you to work with various client systems such as groups, families, individuals, children, the elderly, communities, organizations, and people of all levels of society who experience difficulties with the challenges of life.
We encourage you to consider social work as a career field. There are many opportunities available for employment or for graduate work following your completion of a bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW). The job outlook for the social work profession is growing at a rate of about 25% per year, which is faster than average for job growth. We welcome students who desire to make a difference in people’s lives. Social Work may be the career for you.
Please contact us if you want additional information about the degree. And take a moment to look at some of the activities and pictures on this website.
